Who this is for
- You're buying your first compact or small utility tractor, or your first in a long time.
- You have a few acres to a small farm: mowing, a gravel drive, snow, firewood, food plots, a garden.
- You've found a listing on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, TractorHouse, Machinery Pete, an auction site, or a dealer lot, and you're asking yourself:
- Is this price fair?
- What could be wrong with it that I wouldn't notice?
- What do I ask the seller, and what should I offer?
- Is this listing even real?

What to send me
- The listing link (or screenshots if it's been taken down).
- All the photos and videos you have. If you can, ask the seller for a cold-start video, the hour meter, the serial number plate, and the loader and 3-point hitch going up and down.
- Your location and the tractor's location, so I can account for regional prices and the cost of getting it home.
- What you plan to use it for (mowing, loader work, snow, brush, and so on) and your budget.

A fair-price range
I compare the listing to public auction results and similar listings for the same model, hours, and equipment. I'll tell you how it compares to the "sold" prices and the asking prices, and why.
Red flags I can see in the photos and video
Things like leaks, wear that doesn't match the hours, hacked wiring, damaged hoses, loader frame cracks, tire age, signs of hard use, and missing parts or attachments.

An offer script
What to offer, how to bring up the issues you found, and where to walk away. Written so you can say it on the phone or text it.
A scam check
I look for the common signs of a fake listing: a price that's too low, stolen or reused photos, "shipping-only" or deposit-first requests, newly made websites or businesses, and wire, gift-card, or payment-app-only demands.

I was born and raised on a row crop farm in Nebraska, and I went on to work in the used agricultural equipment business. Along the way I've worked with everyone from individuals who were retiring all the way up to 40-store John Deere dealerships. Now I'm putting that experience to work for people buying a tractor, so you can go into the deal knowing what you're looking at.

FAQ
Please read: what this is and what it isn't
- This is a remote opinion, not a mechanical inspection. I can only judge what's in the listing, the photos, the videos, and what the seller tells you. I can't see inside the engine, transmission, or hydraulics. I can't test the machine, and I can't promise its condition.
- For expensive machines, get a hands-on inspection. If you're spending serious money, have a dealer or a qualified mechanic inspect the tractor in person before you pay. I'll tell you what to ask them to check.
- The price range is an estimate, based on public information. It isn't a formal appraisal, and nobody can promise what a machine will sell for.
- You make the final decision. I don't work for the seller or a dealer, I don't take commissions, and I won't contact the seller for you.
What if the review isn't useful?
Tell me within 7 days and I'll refund you in full. No hassle.
What if the listing sells before my review is done?
You'll get a credit toward your next review, so you can send me the next tractor you find at no extra cost. In that case the credit replaces a cash refund.
Is my information private?
Yes. Your photos and listing details are used only for your review. They're never shared or posted.
Is this a mechanical inspection?
No. This is a remote opinion, not a mechanical inspection. For expensive machines, have a dealer or a qualified mechanic inspect the tractor in person before you pay. See what this is and what it isn't.
What kinds of tractors do you review?
All makes and models: John Deere, Kubota, New Holland, Mahindra, Massey Ferguson, Case IH, LS, Kioti, and more. That includes compact, sub-compact, and utility tractors and their attachments.
I already went and looked at it. Is this still worth it?
Yes. Send me your own photos and notes. The price check, seller questions, and offer script are often most useful right before you negotiate.
Can you come out and inspect it?
No. This service is remote only. For a hands-on check, use a local dealer service department or an independent mechanic.
How do you work out a "fair price"?
I look at public auction results and current listings for similar machines, then adjust for hours, condition, attachments, region, and transport. Asking prices are usually higher than what machines actually sell for, and I'll show you both.
What if it turns out to be a scam?
Then you've saved a lot more than $39. If the scam check finds strong warning signs, I'll tell you plainly and explain why.
Will you negotiate for me?
No. You get a script and talking points so you can negotiate yourself.
